About us

A story written across generations

We are Immigrants from Bcharre , a town in northern Lebanon near the “Cedars of God,” have been part of the Australian-Lebanese community since the late 19th century. Early migrants from this region, among other Lebanese villages, commonly arrived in Australia starting in the 1870s, often settling in regional areas as hawkers.

Key Aspects of Bcharre/Lebanese History in Australia:

Early Migration (1870s-1940s): Initial immigrants from Lebanon, including those from Bcharre, were engaged in peddling (hawking) wares in rural communities before establishing businesses.

The “Cedars” Connection (WWII): A significant historical link exists during WWII, where Australian troops trained in mountain warfare and skiing in the Bcharre area (The Cedars) in 1941-1942.

Settlement and Integration: Lebanese Australians, including those from Bcharre, have maintained a high rate of citizenship and community organization, balancing their Lebanese heritage with a strong commitment to Australian identity.

Present Demographics: Today, about 1% of the Australian population claims Lebanese ancestry
